FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can therapy help?

Primarily, therapy is helpful because it reclaims the art of accompaniment.  We are not meant to feel alone...whatever one's particular challenges, connection based on respect and trust is the necessary prerequisite for personal growth and healing.

The power of a companion, to provide an empathic listening ear cannot be understated.  Come as you are, I am committed to both the version of yourself that shows up today, as well as to the person you want to become. You are not alone.

How long will I need to participate in therapy before I feel better?

Often taking that first step toward seeking support helps us to feel hopeful about the future.  Recognizing that we could use some help and learning to take care of ourselves like we would a loved one demonstrates the kind of courage necessary to gain the benefits of therapy. There are many different stages or "Seasons of Change" in the therapeutic process that bring with them various emotions and states of being.  To pursue what is new often requires that we let go of something we already have and that means a loss, which can be difficult. The good news is that through every stage of change, growth and self-exploration you will not be alone, and that can make all the difference.

What can I expect to happen in a therapy session?

I practice Person Centred Therapy which means that although we collaborate, goals are client-set and client-led. In the first session, I want to start to get to know you, and understand what has prompted you to seek support and what you hope to get out of our work together. Once we have conceptualized a plan, we can discuss a time frame and expectations.  The process is often non-linear but we will move toward your goals together, collaboratively, using open communication and feedback to guide the way and make adjustments as we go.

It is important to find a quiet and private place to meet for our virtual session, this will allow you to be fully present without interruptions and take full advantage of our time together.

May I include family members in my therapy sessions?

Couples and family sessions should be organized and scheduled ahead of time and can take many different forms.  Generally, I meet with couples together in the first session, occasionally there is a need to meet individually sometime during the process.  It largely depends on the preferences of the client(s) and the particular goals and problem situations we are working through.

How much do you charge?

Individual sessions are $100 for a 50-minute session.  Couples sessions are $160 for a 90-minute session.  Sessions are automatically billed after each appointment.  $50 cancellation fees are charged without 24 hours' notice.
